College of St. Joseph's baseball team plays at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) on Saturday, March 30 at 1pm. The game is scheduled to run 9 innings.
CSJ faced the Seawolves (16-4) twice on Sept. 30 in South Portland, Maine during the fall season. CSJ won both games by the score of 4-1. Each team had 5 hits in game one, while the Fighting Saints outhit SMCC 7-5 in game two.
Justin Holmberg threw a complete game for the Saints in the first contest, picking up his third win on the mound at that time. He threw 7 strikeouts and conceded 5 hits along with 1 run for a 1.29 ERA on the game. SMCC's Dylan Francoeur took the loss on the mound. He threw 9 strikeouts, walked 4 batters and gave up 5 hits, 4 runs. Kyle Gould had 2 hits and 2 runs to lead CSJ's offense in the first game.
Jason Albert started game two on the mound for the Saints. He threw 3 strikeouts and gave up 4 hits in 6.0 innings of action. William Leino earned a save as the closer, giving up 1 hit in the final inning of the contest. Gould recorded 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI thanks in part to a home run in the fifth inning.
