College of St. Joseph's men's basketball team fell 102-87 at Villa Maria College on Saturday, Jan. 20. Charles Isaac led the Saints offensively with 24 points and Mickalous Snowden netted six total three-pointers for 18 points.
DeJaun Owens scored Villa's first five points. Isaac converted a layup and Snowden scored his first three pointer to tie the game. Jonathan Brioso netted a free throw to give CSJ a lead, but an Owens foul show and Jonathan Pozo layup put the Vikings back on top 8-6.
Quadarius Spence tied the game at 13 with a jump shot five minutes in. Isaac made a three-pointer a minute later to give CSJ a 16-15 edge. The two squads traded the game lead over the next four minutes until the Vikings went on a 7-0 run with under eight minutes to play in the half, bringing their lead to 30-23.
Isaac and Tyreke Woodard made back to back three-point shots to cut the Fighting Saints' deficit to one, and after the Vikings scored three straight points Darrien White made a three to again bring CSJ within one. Deron Walter converted a layup to give the Saints a 34-33 lead with five and a half minutes to go in the half, but Villa ensured the lead would not last and went on a 13-10 run to close the first frame.
After halftime, Isaac tied the game at 46 with a layup and Snowden netted another three to take a 49-46 lead. CSJ remained ahead until Douglas tied the game at 55 after sinking an and one layup and foul shot. He was then fouled on the Vikings' next possession and made his two earned free throws to give Villa a 57-55 lead.
Snowden responded for CSJ with a three-pointer, and the two teams traded baskets and the lead for the next three minutes. Jared Brown gave CSJ their largest lead of the half after a layup put CSJ up 65-61, but Owens and Justin Stokes netted layups to erase their team's deficit. Next, the Vikings sank two three pointers and rolled with their momentum for the final 10 minutes of play, gradually increasing their advantage as the game went on.
Kadeem Riddick recorded a game-high 16 rebounds and scored 12 points for a double-double. He also provided three assists. Quadarius Spence racked up 12 rebounds along with six points and three blocks. Villa was led by Douglas, who grabbed nine rebounds and scored a game high 33 points.
